What is Set & Scenic Assembly?

Set and scenic assembly is the craft of turning raw materials and fabricated components into a complete physical environment — a craft Beatrox practices from Portland, Oregon on productions across the country: the stage a performer stands on, the walls that wrap an audience, the themed room that sells a story. It's where design drawings become a place people can actually walk through. You need scenic assembly whenever an event or installation has to feel like a world rather than a room: product launches, concerts, immersive brand experiences, and themed activations all depend on it. The work spans structural assembly, surfacing and skins, overhead elements, and the final layer of dressing and detail that makes a set photograph — and feel — finished. The difference between a good set and a great one is precision and pace. Load-ins are short, venues are unforgiving, and every piece has to land in the right order. A seasoned assembly crew makes a complex environment come together in hours instead of days.

What BEATROX Provides

Beatrox provides complete scenic assembly: staging and platforms, scenic walls and wraps, suspended and overhead elements, custom signage, and full set dressing — delivered by crews experienced in tight load-in windows and unusual venues. We assemble environments that hide their infrastructure, so the audience sees only the experience. For MyShelter, the Adidas Outdoor jacket launch in New York, we transformed a narrow, shut-down Manhattan bodega into a lush forest canopy — assembling floor-to-ceiling scenic treatments, foliage elements hung from the roof, custom street signage, and CNC acrylic details, all while concealing the projection and audio technology inside the set. For Create Our Future at Mack Sennett Studio in Los Angeles, produced for Urban Outfitters x Adidas, the scenic centerpiece was a 270-degree Cyclone Wall on a self-climbing truss system that wrapped the stage in a seamless projection surface for live performances including Phantogram. And for Run for the Oceans at Domino Park in Brooklyn, we converted a shipping container into a deep-ocean chamber — assembling seamless wall-to-wall video panel surfaces with mirrored floor and ceiling to create a full infinity-mirror environment for Adidas and Parley Ocean School.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much load-in time do you need?

It depends on the complexity of the set, but we plan every assembly around your venue's actual access window. Pre-assembly in the shop and a sequenced load-in plan let us build surprisingly complex environments in a single day when needed.

Can you build in unconventional venues?

Yes — unconventional spaces are a specialty. We've converted a shut-down bodega in Manhattan and a shipping container in a Brooklyn park into fully immersive environments, hiding all technical infrastructure inside the set.

Do you handle strike and venue restoration?

Always. Strike is planned with the same care as load-in — fast teardown, material removal, and a venue left exactly as we found it.

Can scenic elements be reused for multiple events?

We can design sets as modular, road-worthy kits that assemble and strike repeatedly — ideal for touring activations and multi-city campaigns.
