What is CNC Machining?

CNC machining uses computer-controlled cutting tools to turn digital designs into physical parts with millimeter precision — work our Portland, Oregon shop produces for experiential builds across the country. In experiential production, it's how crisp signage, intricate scenic details, interlocking structures, and perfectly repeatable components get made — straight from a CAD file to the shop floor. You need CNC machining whenever a design calls for accuracy hand tools can't hold: tight-tolerance display housings, layered acrylic graphics, branded dimensional lettering, or dozens of identical parts that have to fit together on a fast load-in. It's also the fastest path from prototype to production — once the file is right, the hundredth part is identical to the first. The real advantage isn't the machine; it's having machining in the same shop as fabrication, electronics, and finishing. Parts are designed for how they'll actually be assembled and used — not just how they look on screen.

What materials can you machine?

We machine acrylic, wood, and composite sheet goods — the core materials of scenic, signage, and display work. Material choice is matched to the environment, finish requirements, and budget of each project.

Can you work from our design files?

Yes. We accept client CAD files and also develop machining-ready files in-house — either way, we review every file for manufacturability and assembly before anything is cut.

Do you do production runs, or just prototypes?

Both. CNC is ideal for one-off prototypes, but its real power is repeatability — once the file is dialed in, we produce identical parts at quantity for multi-location or multi-show deployments.

Is machining available as a standalone service?

It can be, but it's most valuable integrated — when machining, fabrication, electronics, and finishing come from one shop, parts are designed around how they'll actually be assembled and used.
